Identifying spaces and people on campus that remind you of home can be a daunting task. Fortunately, in this week's episode of our 3rd Annual Divine 9 Series, "How Sororities and Fraternities Support Mental Health Awareness," we invite back Samone Anderson, UCLA's Project Director for the Academic Supports Program (ASP) and Spring 2022 initiate Nu Lambda Chapter member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Ms. Anderson shares how she and her staff facilitate a holistic model of student empowerment by offering peer-based counseling services to the future leaders of tomorrow. Ms. Anderson will soon complete her Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies this Spring at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). As the current Project Director for ASP, she focuses specifically on achieving 100% retention and matriculation of Black students at UCLA. ASP was the first student-initiated and student-run retention resource at a college campus, especially committed to Black students. 34 years and ASP is still paving the way with four different peer-based services to better support Black students holistically in counseling, peer learning facilitation, and mentorship programming with an internship course. To learn more about Ms. Anderson and her various projects, visit her on IG @unstoppable_21, @aspatucla or connect with her via email at Sanderson@saonet.ucla.edu, Aspatucla@gmail.com, as well as the ASP website at AcademicSupportsProgram.weebly.com.
