In today’s episode, we wrap up our celebration of youth changemakers for Women’s History Month with our final UCLA Bruin, Ms. Nadia Brooks. This well recognized performing artist encourages you to only get involved in community organizing if you truly have a passion for it. As early as middle school, Nadia knew she wanted to use her talents to bring attention to the economic disparities of her community. Through her powerful poetry presentations and speeches about the plight of her community, she was invited to be the opening act for the Broadway hit musical, ‘Hamilton’ at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, CA. Empowering others through the arts and bringing awareness to the sustainability of indigenous lands is at the core of what she does best! Ms. Brooks is currently in pursuit of her Bachelor of Arts in Public Affairs with a Minor in Environmental Science at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She has been nurtured and recognized by the likes of two powerhouse siblings, civil rights attorney, Fania Davis Jordan and world renowned professor and activist, Dr. Angela Davis. She has participated in numerous competitions including Youth Speaks and the MLK Oratorical Contest. She is also the A&R Co-Director of the largest student-run festival, the UCLA JazzReggae Festival.
