In today's episode honoring our veterans, Commander Jose Gomez of the U.S. Navy joins us to share how he conquered some of the challenges of his college years to eventually end up in a career he loves. Through his journey, find out how he discovered the real value in taking advantage of opportunities. CDR Gomez completed his Master of National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College. Her received his Bachelor of Science in Decision Information Sciences at the University of Florida. He is a native of Colorado, but raised in Miami, Florida. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in September 2001 and a Foreign Area Officer (FAO) in 2011. He is married, has three children and is a Captain select. During his first operational Sea Tour, he served as an Electronic Counter Measures Officer (ECMO) in the EA-6B Prowler assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 138. He made two WESTPAC deployments aboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) supporting Operations IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM from 2002-2005. He is currently assigned to NORAD and USNORTHCOM as the J592 Theater Security Cooperation Programs Branch Chief. Gomez has accumulated over 1,000 flight ours and 200 carrier-arrested landings. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (3), Air Medal Strike/Flight, Navy, Combat Action Ribbon and various campaign, unit and service awards.
