Dr. Kari completed her Ph.D. in Trichology at the International Institute of Trichology and received her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications at University of California, Berkeley. With over 20 years of experience as a natural hair care specialist, she served as President and Vice President of the California Board of Barbering & Cosmetology, appointed by Governor Jerry Brown from 2013-2021. As the creator of Goddess Locs, a natural loc extension style that has changed the culture of black hair, she is also the founder and Chief Formulator of Beauty by Dr K, a new brand of healthy hair care products that have been formulated as a backed-by-science approach to healthier hair and scalp. She is building a global team of certified DK Masters and continues to create innovative ways to assist them in maximizing their potential through and her one-of-a-kind certification courses and webinars. Dr. Kari is a highly sought-after speaker, who has worked with a number of companies including Shea Moisture, Eden Bodyworks, Sof’n Free, Curls, Carol’s Daughter, and African Pride. She has represented these companies as a guest speaker, presenter, workshop leader, and product educator.
