The Back to Me Podcast

80. Trust Your Gut Instinct with Dr. Ayanna Abrams

Episode Summary

This month we celebrate Black History by honoring the way we love ourselves, our significant others, our passion for music, and our omnipresent ancestors as part of our Love Series titled, Relationships That Matter. In today’s episode, we invite back one of our popular therapists for her genuine and relatable way of reminding us to always be accountable for our own happiness, Dr. Ayanna Abrams. Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Abrams encourages you to be more transparent and honest with yourself, in order to grow through this current phase of adolescence. Find out how gender socialization may be preventing you from acting on your own gut instincts. Dr. Abrams challenges you to take the risk of simply being yourself in a world that already has its own plan mapped out for you. Dr. Abrams completed her Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology and her M.A. in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and African American Studies at Syracuse University. Dr. Abrams is the CEO/Founder of Ascension Behavioral Health in Atlanta, GA and co-founder of Not So Strong, an initiative to improve the mental health and relationship functioning of Black women through the use of vulnerable storytelling. Her specialties include racism-based trauma, mood disorder treatment, burnout prevention and helping people create and recreate healthy romantic, friendship, career and familial relationships. She has extensive clinical and research experience working with Black people across the Diaspora and has been featured as a speaker or contributing writer in the New York Times, the Atlantic, Essence, WeWork, Vice and Allure magazines, Therapy for Black Girls and Silence the Shame.
