Sexual Assault Month begins this week and social media is all abuzz with stories from survivors that are filling up Twitter feeds, along with the surprising responses from their perpetrators. In today’s episode, we welcome Advocate Specialist for the Interpersonal Violence Prevention Program (IVPP) at Howard University, Ms. Teaira Garnett. Ms. Garnett discusses the valuable and confidential nonreporting services that IVPP offers its students on and off campus. Through healthy relationship training workshops for both survivors and perpetrators, Ms. Garnett and her team provide this safe alternative option to traditional therapy for students to come and share their stories. Ms. Garnett completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She has 10+ years of experience providing advocacy and crisis support to survivors of both domestic violence and sexual assault. Ms. Garnett is also dedicated to the health and wellness of her community. She engages with residents that live, work, and raise their families in the Greater Washington, DC area. As a native Washingtonian, she informs locals about various community programs, community partnerships, and various trainings on healthy relationships and interpersonal violence. To learn more about Ms. Garnett’s work and her services, connect with her on IG @ivpphu or email her at teaira.garnett@gmail.com.
